CBAM News from CARES

19/10/2026

CARES recently hosted a senior Assessment Team from RvA, the Dutch Accreditation Council, at our UK Head Office as part of the process required in assessing CARES against EN ISO/IEC 17029 for CBAM verification activities.

The RvA team's rigorous assessment covered CARES' management systems; impartiality arrangements; verifier competence and the delivery of verification work. While we are confident of achieving a positive outcome, the process remains ongoing. Any accreditation granted at this stage would be in the form of Temporary Accreditation with restrictive conditions (TAB), which is a standard mechanism used where CBAM verification activities cannot yet be demonstrated in practice. Following a grant of temporary accreditation, the RvA will attend the first verification activity and conduct a subsequent file review before considering conversion to accreditation without restrictive conditions.

Our thanks go to the RvA team for their courtesy, thoroughness and professionalism throughout this very important CBAM process.

These EU CBAM verification requirements are being monitored very closely by other markets, including the UK where a launch is planned in early 2027. Other key markets, including Turkey and Australia, are actively engaged in development work.

CARES now awaits the outcome of RvA's assessment and will update as soon as we have further news.
